Days of our Lives

Being unemployed is pretty great. I’m getting way more stuff done now than when I was being paid to do things.

It’s amazing how not having an 8-hour soul-sucking void every day leaves me with plenty of energy to do stuff that I enjoy doing.

For example, I’m having great time gardening (well, cultivating a meadow, really), doing pottery, and generally enjoying my life. This has had other great effects, like my kitchen is the cleanest it’s been since filming Lo-Fi Beats to Grind Coffee To, and I’m having the energy to work on music and open source stuff again (including Publ).

On that note, I did some music for a game jam, and I also entered into this week’s Song Fight! (title: Material Change).

And! I’ve made a few interesting contacts for some potential audio gigs, including a very compelling VR product. Obviously I can’t talk about it yet but hopefully something comes of it.

Speaking of VR, I’ve also been having fun streaming on Twitch and have mostly been playing Beat Saber. I’ve gotten pretty good at it, at least for an out-of-shape clumsy person who’s only played it for a week and a half. Of course, my self-image of how I move when playing it is distinctly different from how I actually move when playing it, as evidenced by my Twitch VODs. Which is why I need to set up a full-on vtuber rig or something, probably.

Also, I feel like I’m in a much better mental state to deal with random challenges which occur. For example, the other day my water heater started to have problems, and instead of freaking out about it, I was able to just like, y'know, call to get someone to come fix it, and meanwhile it isn’t a big deal that I need to do a couple of extra steps before I shower in the morning (and even if I had to be without hot water for a couple days I don’t think it would have been the end of the world). It’ll also probably be covered by warranty. Unfortunately the earliest appointment I could get happens to overlap with a phone appointment with my doctor that’s required for some employment-related paperwork but hopefully things will line up well enough.

No new news on the condo sale front. Last I heard that’ll be happening either later this month or early next month.

Oh, another great thing is I’ve had a lot more energy for cooking. I made a big pot of chicken tikka masala the other day. It was tasty, and I have so much leftover sauce that I’ll probably extend it with a batch of fried tofu or something. It’s nice to be able to cook for pleasure rather than sustenance again.

So anyway yeah I’m doing pretty okay right now.
