What have I gotten myself into?

Okay so a couple months ago I finally rearranged my bedroom, having spent four years here and finally realizing that the layout could be a lot better. It was a one-day project where I was just rearranging stuff and it’s made a huge difference to my quality of life, but it didn’t require any cash outlay, just a lot of energy and such.

While considering that stuff I also started to consider a rearrangement of my living room (for the same reasons), and Sunday I started to enact that plan, only to quickly discover that the particular furniture I have wasn’t a good fit for things and that my idea would make a bunch of aspects of my living room way worse.

So I started to doodle with the IKEA room designer, and came up with a new setup that would work really nicely for my needs, and where I could keep some of the furniture I have but replace my storage shelves with something a bit more appropriate to the room. And then…

I ordered it, for delivery, and it arrives tomorrow.

I do not have sufficient space to store the flatpacks. I do not know where I’ll keep my existing furniture while I get the new stuff setup, or where I’ll store it until I can offload it on Craigslist or whatever. I’m also not sure where some of my wall art will go.

And if that weren’t enough, I also decided this was time to replace my 20-year-old bed frame, and I don’t know where the old bed frame is going to go while, again, I wait for Craigslist or whatever to do its magic.

Oh and did I mention I’m still in the midst of a pain flareup, and my vertigo has been super bad the last few days too?

The end result of this stuff will absolutely be better but I’m having a hard time thinking about how things are going to be in the interim.

I do have a hard deadline of March 25 to get all this done since I have a live show on the 30th which will need my VR playspace to be in good clean order for. Which is one of the reasons I’m doing this now, actually: I want my living room to be more efficient and capable for VR-based performances.

Oh and I also got super annoyed with the digital piano I’ve been using my studio, so I finally bought the dedicated MIDI controller I should have gotten in the first place (I found a good deal on a used one), with the idea that the digital piano will be something I can set up in the living room for doing performances, as well as being more convenient for practicing piano on. So that’s been another priority for taking care of this stuff.

Still. I suspect I’ll only be able to do, like, one furniture replacement project at a time, and there’s going to be a lot of crowdedness in the interim. Hopefully it’ll all be worth it though.

Gosh I’m sore though.

Also, I could have at least cleared away the big pile of Goodwill donations I hadn’t gotten around to, y'know, donating, first. I really do set myself up for disaster sometimes, don’t I.
