Going with Notion for now

For now I’m just going with Notion. Some aspects of its UI really piss me off and I especially wish I could turn off the AI bullshit and get it to stop trying to guess what I mean when I’m trying to FUCKING TELL IT WHAT I MEAN (especially since it always gets it wrong, but its guess overrides what I’m trying to write in the first place, please software developers stop doing this shit!!!) but it at least gives me the project/task nesting I need and its workflow is flexible enough that I can add the columns that I need.

So for example I use projects for groups of songs, and then tasks for individual songs, and then I’ve got the following columns for tasks:

  • Backlog
  • Planned
  • In progress
  • Awaiting feedback
  • Done
  • Archived

and the following for projects:

  • Backlog
  • Planning
  • In progress
  • Done
  • Cancelled
  • Paused

It’s also nice that one-off tracks that aren’t associated with a project can just be a task without a project, which is handy for a lot of my video work.

Also the desktop app is vaguely better than trying to use it in Firefox, I guess. It’d be nice if it supported multiple accounts, though, since the reason I even tried Notion out to begin with is because it’s also what we’re using at Trans Academy now.

Something I’m still trying to figure out is how to keep tasks from different project groups separate, though. But maybe for my album projects I’ll just keep using Apple Notes, since that works really well for my workflow there. It’s really just client work that I need better organization on, and which Notion seems to provide.
