Wellp it’s another day that I feel like talking about.
Music progress
Today I started on the fifth song for the album. I didn’t lay down any permanent tracks or anything but I at least proved out the ideas of what I want to do.
I also got my set of cymbal mallets today, which gives me a lot more flexibility with some of the percussion I’m doing. I might go back and redo some of the cymbal rolls on the previously-completed song.
I’ve also had a couple of wins with things, namely I’ve gotten a bunch more of my music into a video game placement service and am also working with an up-and-coming game asset store to get my music into that as well.
I don’t currently have any streams/concerts scheduled, but I will be performing at Bumbershoot, so that’s pretty cool. Also I’m going to experiment a bit more with how to handle shows from within VRChat. I have a few ideas for how to improve the tech aspects, anyway.
Also today an email I sent to my favorite band (congratulating them on their latest single) finally got a response from Evan, their vocalist/frontman/double bass player. I mentioned that the album I’m working on is extremely inspired by their sound, and Evan definitely wants to know when it comes out! I also pointed him at some of my other recent music and he enjoyed it.
One of my favorite shows ever was when I saw them live in Seattle around a decade ago. I was super excited to see them but was having a panic attack and kept on posting excitedly about the show on Twitter. And then during the show, Evan said, “So, is there anyone here named… fluffy?” which was super cool. We chatted a bunch after the show and I picked his brain about a bunch of stuff and it was just a nice capstone on top of an already-great night.
MoMS is one of those bands which I always felt should have gotten way more attention than they did. Their music’s so good, and has been a giant inspiration to me for years now.
Also I’m really glad to see that the MoMS genre has a name now. I don’t think Transitions will qualify with that genre though. I’m still trying to figure out how I’m going to market it and what genre descriptors will be the most plausible for the major services.
Zed thoughts
I think I’m going to go back to Sublime Text. Zed has a lot of potential but there’s so many rough edges that get in the way of things I’m trying to do. Plus it’s super into LLM autocomplete stuff which I do not care for at all.
Chronic pain
Of course the more things go my way, the harder it hits me when I get hit with a chronic pain flareup. And of course those always happen right when I’m suddenly getting very busy with a lot of things. It’s almost as if it’s my body throwing up a defense mechanism against productivity.
My disability application continues to be on hold. Sigh.
Continuing COVID recovery
I still have a lingering cough. I’m still having dizzy spells (although I’m able to drive where I need to). I don’t know if this is also making my pain stuff worse or not. My brain is still made of squish. I hate this.
It’s only been two months since I got sick, at least. It feels like it’s been longer.
