Various updates

Here’s some things going on these days, since it’s been a little while since I’ve posted here.

Disability hearing

I feel like my disability hearing (on Thursday) went pretty well. I guess I’m a bit superstitious in that I don’t want to speak too highly about it for fear of disappointment, but there were some pretty good indicators all the same. Even saying this much makes me nervous, though.

Anyway if I do get granted disability it’ll make it easier for me to do things like getting rides, hiring someone to help me keep my home clean and lawn mowed, and other such useful things.

Fibromyalgia/fatigue/etc.

And on that note, I’ve been having a really bad pain flareup for the last few days, and have been super fatigued. Today was the STANCE summer barbecue and I just couldn’t gather the spoons to go to it, and it sounds like a lot of other folks were the same way. I hope people who were able to go ended up having a good time, all the same.

Costco had a deal to get a Priority Turi for about 25% off, so I bought one. It arrived a couple days ago and I have it assembled, although I still need to adjust the brakes, and I’ve been having too much fatigue to take it on a ride just yet. But my hope is that it’ll be a nice middle ground between walking and driving to the grocery store, and that maybe I can improve my stamina overall.

I’ve also been trying to finish the next phase of my basement reorganization, replacing the old janky workbenches with better-designed Ikea ones, but I just plain can’t muster up the energy to do the next phase. I’m so freaking tired.

Music

I’ve been busy with two particular things:

  • Doing the soundtrack (and some of the music playback code) for a game, which I really hope is not impacted by recent events but probably will be, severely
  • Jeremy Blake’s monthly challenge is due in a few days. This month’s prompt is “folk music,” and my original idea was to do an electronic production of “More Waters Rising” but instead I ended up doing a mashup of two well-known folk songs (one Finnish, one from New Zealand) inspired by some recent events. I’ll be uploading it to Spotify. I feel like it’s good enough for its stated purpose but I’d really like the vocals to sound a wee bit better first.

Also, Song Fight! Live is coming up soon. It’ll be at Jellyfish Brewing on August 8-9. I am currently scheduled to go on August 8 at 6:40 PM, although that’s subject to slip and modification. If you’re interested in coming you should also come to both nights, as there’s some great acts scheduled for Saturday, as well as the Live Fight where we debut a newly-written song.
