Rambles that are fluffy, by fluffy
No real progress today, instead the contractor came and looked over the installation variances from yesterday and we formulated a plan to fix everything. Mostly just took down the range hood (and settled on a new solution with HUGE thanks to Spud for some much-appreciated unsolicited design work), and two of the base cabinets got moved 3" to the left. Oh and the hole in the wall next to my phone got bigger.
It wouldn’t be a kitchen remodel without some major screw-up, right? Well today one finally happened.
Ah, I thought that was going too smoothly.

Partial cabinet installation! It’s starting to look like something!
Took delivery of the new cabinets. Actual install work hasn’t been scheduled; maybe Monday, maybe tomorrow, maybe in two weeks, who knows! Also this is real-life Sokoban. My little temporary kitchen becomes even more unwieldy. Guess I’ll be eating out for the next little while.
Two things happened today of note:
Neither are things I really wanted to have to, y'know, spend this kind of money on right now, but they were both necessary. If badly-timed.
Demolition! Or: a farewell to shitty cabinets.
Day 0: scrambling to move my stuff out of the kitchen because I found out demolition was going to happen the next day without warning
Just some brief updates for the goings-on.
So, I mentioned recently that I’m remodeling my kitchen. As usual, a major fiasco is apparently going to happen with my stove, which seems to always be the case.
My kitchen uses downdraft venting. This is not by choice, but because of the way that the building is laid out. There is absolutely no way to install an over-the-range vent hood, because of its layout. Not even a ductless one. Just believe me when I say this, and don’t try to come up with ways of adding a range hood – trust me, you can’t.
