Critter v1.7.0 update notes
Critter v1.7 brings a bunch of new features, some of which will require some changes to your existing avatar setup.
Mesh retopology
A bunch of the mesh has been retopologized, and while I’ve made an effort to keep the UV coordinates the same wherever possible, the nose has changed very slightly.
Due to the usual mesh changes you’ll also probably have to reset your avatar’s pose, and if you’re using VF Goo or any other shader that requires mesh baking, you will have to redo the baking. (But this is the case on all upgrades, really.)
Selectable horn pop sounds
There is now the ability to change the poppable horn pop sounds, such as via a material change. Even if you do not customize the sounds, you will need to make the following changes to your avatar:
On the Pop! audio source (which is stored on
Armature/hips/spine/chest/neck/head/hornson the armature), enable the audio source, and disable the “Play On Awake” setting.
On whatever animators you use for selecting the pop sound (most likely your PC material animator), go to the “Parameters” tab and add an
Intvalue with nameHornPopSound
On your material animator’s default state (usually named “Loading”), add a
VRCAvatarParameterDriverBehaviour, click the “Add” button, then make it of type Set, destinationHornPopSound, and a value of 0 (assuming you want to keep the default horn pop sound; see the horn pop sound documentation for details on how to choose a different default)

On the main critter object, find the “Full Controller” component, unfurl the “Advanced Options” popout, and add
HornPopSoundto the “Global Parameters” list.
Note that these changes are only strictly necessary on the PC version of the avatar, as the Quest/mobile version of VRChat does not support audio sources to begin with.
Hiding of the attribution card
On some material setups (particularly ones involving transparency), having the attribution card can be super distracting and unwelcome. For those situations, there is now a blendshape on the body mesh called “hide info card” (at the bottom of the customizations section). For materials where you want to hide the info card, you may animate this parameter to a value of 1.
I have also changed the license on the avatar to allow the removal of the attribution card, although I would prefer that you not.
