Music progress and upcoming shows!

Gosh it’s been a while since I’ve checked in! Here’s stuff that’s going on with me, music-wise.

Transitions

The album is almost done. I finally settled on some album art, all but one song is recorded, and I just have a bit of mixing work to do on half of the songs. Hopefully the Bandcamp release will be available soon, and the streaming release will be soon after!

Choir

As always, my choir is doing a couple of shows for Trans Day of Remembrance. Both will be at University Congregational UCC, with one on November 16, 2024 at 3 PM and one on November 20, 2024 at 7:30 PM.

These will also hopefully be streamed, for those who can’t make it in person, but I hope you will be able to attend in the flesh if possible.

VRChat show

I’ll also be performing at a charity show for Aga’s Toys for Tots on November 15 at 2:30 PM Pacific. I don’t know if this show will be streamed but it’ll definitely be accessible in VRChat. I’ll be providing more information as it comes to me.

Music distribution

I have finished1 switching distributors from DistroKid to Too Lost for a number of reasons, the big one being that they include ContentID as part of the package but also provide fine-grained control over allowing specific songs or albums to be used on various YouTube and TikTok channels, which is super important to me (since I license some of my music out to folks). They also do much nicer things for the business side of things (such as providing your own label byline and letting you import existing UPCs and ISRCs without spending a lot extra).

Their support has also been way more responsive in general (still obnoxious but at least they don’t take two weeks to give me a wrong answer), and the website itself feels like they’re actually working on making it usable and improving it, unlike DistroKid’s ancient 90s-ass interface that is always a total pain to work with.

TooLost also has way more amenable/affordable rights management for cover songs, which will be important if I ever get around to doing an album full of cover songs (which I’ve been planning for a while now).

I’d been with DistroKid for the last decade, having signed up in November 2014, but it’s been time to move on for a while.

On that note, Too Lost’s catalog importer is pretty much broken by design, so if you do decide to switch, I’d recommend just manually migrating releases. Hopefully they improve it over time though. I’ve been giving them plenty of customer feedback while onboarding.

Novembeat

I’ve done a little bit of doodling for Novembeat this year, but I haven’t been particularly invested in it since I’ve already been so busy with other music stuff. I’ll probably still do more of it though. Definitely not going as overboard as years past.

Whether I actually release it as an album this time around remains to be seen.

Website

I haven’t worked on the replacement website for Sockpuppet in a while. Hopefully I can get busy on that after all this other stuff is over with! Because that’s been super overdue too.
