We didn’t start the fire

Turns out it’s kind of hard to do???1

Last night I had fun trying, and mostly failing, to build a self-sustaining fire. I got a lot of advice on Mastodon. None of it worked.

Today I’m trying the technique described by This Old House, which is similar to techniques I’ve seen on survivalist YouTube2. It is also failing to work.

Oh well. My shower leak has been fixed and very little needs to be done to the tile. The plumber kept looping me in on every little discovery every time he unpeeled another onion layer of how the subcontractor messed up badly. The plumbing is all fixed now and I just need some drywall to be patched. I am very annoyed at the first two plumbers who came and gave me bad advice, but the third time’s a charm.

All in all, this round of repairs cost around $1000 total. The original subcontractor has agreed to do the drywall and baseboard repair and we’ll call it even. No idea when that will happen though (he’s coming by on Sunday to see what’s what), and in the meantime I have some annoying plastic sheeting up to cover the hole in the drywall.

I’m glad for how livable my house is now though.

I’d attach pictures but I have a cat in my lap.
