Stuff and happenings
I’ve been accepted into Furality’s Dealer’s Den as a musician! I have a month to get my booth together and I’ve already got it like 90% done. It’s actually in an acceptable state already but there’s some more little things I want to do with the background video, and I’m learning so much DaVinci Resolve stuff to do it.
I also have a show on Sunday, at around 4:30 PM PDT. I hope folks can make it!
Bathroom
My bathroom repair was going to start on Monday, but then Gil had the “good” news that he could start tomorrow. Which is very much not good for me, because of the Sunday show. So I asked him if he could start Monday, and he said instead he’d start Wednesday, but will be in Israel for Passover so he’ll be managing his subcontractor via the phone, which has me… somewhat concerned, since absentee contracting has always been the source of my biggest renovation disasters, including the previous one which has led to the need for the current one. But Gil at least is good at finding good workers, so hopefully this one will go okay.
At the very least I’ll be without a shower for a few days so I’m going to have to get used to giving myself a sponge bath or find an alternate means of showering, like getting a day pass at the mall gym. Or maybe my physical therapists have a shower I can use after my sessions?
Vertigo
On that note, physical therapy (for vestibular rehabilitation) is going… well, it’s going. Some days my vertigo is pretty well under control, and during Monday’s session I was super steady and having no problems at all. Some days, like today, are very much not. I actually lost my balance multiple times today and only barely avoided falling over, even with exercises I had no trouble with on Monday. So, that’s super annoying.
Social media
Anyway. As much as I am not a fan of bluesky (or really any timeline social media other than Mastodon) I’ve been convinced to give it more of a shot, so, if you’re there you can follow me @beesbuzz.biz and also music-specific stuff at @sockpuppet.band. Also @fluffy.plush.city.ap.brid.gy sorta-works if you want to follow my Mastodon account from Bluesky for some reason.
I’ve stopped using brid.gy’s Bluesky stuff for my sites, though, as it doesn’t provide very good UX for people following me. At some point I’ll have to write a better RSS-to-crossposty thing. It wouldn’t be super hard to do, but I’m just, like, super tired for a bunch of reasons, including some game projects I’m doing music for, and like, all the other music stuff too.
Oh, also, I’d been using purelymail for a little while now, but its unreliability, awful spam filtering, and some weird incompatibilities with various Apple email clients finally were enough and I’ve switched to Fastmail. So far I’m liking it a lot, and in particular it has a spam filter that actually works well. Migrating to it was also super easy, and they even support progressive migration backfilling in case of stale/overly-cached MX records (as well as for consolidating multiple separate email accounts that you can’t forward directly). So that’s nice.
Fastmail’s a bit more expensive ($8/month for my usage needs, rather than the $10/year that Purelymail cost), but sometimes you really do get what you pay for.
Other projects
I forget if I mentioned it here but I completely redid my living room, and the layout is so much better now. Unfortunately I’m still having trouble with various reflection issues with my VR playspace. I’m pretty sure the problem is reflections off of some of my framed wall art, but unfortunately it’s super tricky to deal with unless I just want to either take my art down (ugh) or remove all of the picture glass (tempting, but far from ideal). I’ve been looking for antiglare glass treatments or glazing replacements but I’m not having a lot of luck with that.
I’m open to suggestions.
Also I need to get around to posting photos of the new layout, as well as in my office and bedroom which I also spent some time rearranging not too long ago.
